Bentwood boxes are made from steamed Western red cedar planks. Planks are grooved in three places, steamed, bent at 90-degree angles, and then snugly fitted into a grooved base to create a watertight and seamless structure. Shain Jackson is a Coast Salish artist and lawyer from the First Nation community of Sechelt. As a lawyer he has represented the interests of Indigenous communities and organizations throughout B.C. After years devoted to the legal profession, Jackson has taken a break to follow his passion as an artist. Currently, he is the founder and president of Spirit Works, an Indigenous-owned and operated company focused on the design, production and distribution of Indigenous artwork.
