These contemporary Fireweed earrings by Tsm'syen/Nisga'a artist Shawna Kiesman are a reminder to stay resilient during tough times. Fireweed is famous for its healing, medicinal qualities and the ability to grow in harsh environments. These sterling silver studs are laser cut with butterfly-style backings.

Born in Prince Rupert, BC and raised in Victoria, BC, Kiesman is a descendant of Tsim'syen/Nisga’a and Haida/German lineage. Kiesman graduated from Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Arts in First Nations Fine Arts and continued her education
at Emily Carr University of Art + Design to gain her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Since graduating, Kiesman’s career as an artist has continued to thrive, having successfully received multiple grants and residencies.

During her time working at the Nisga’a Museum in Laxgalts’ap, BC, Kiesman was inspired by the local fireweed, which now heavily influences her most recent works. Kiesman looks at every piece she creates as an opportunity to learn more about her heritage and as part of the process of reclaiming her cultural identity.
