Salmon Argillite Carving
Handcarved by Haida artist, Glen Pollard, this smooth, long black argillite stone carving features a powerful salmon swimming straight, complete with detailed carvings of scales and gills, and finally, a beautiful abalone inlay as its eyes. The Native salmon symbolizes abundance, fertility, prosperity and renewal.
Glen Pollard was born in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii in 1957. Glen’s lineage can be traced to the K’oona Kiiguwaay of Tanu and his crests are Dogfish and Eagle. A self-taught carver, Glen has worked with argillite for over 30 years. He carves small totem poles, pendants and sculptures and is also well known for his inlay work. His contemporary pieces use clean motifs and are finely executed with elegant form lines. Both Glen’s sister, Shirley Longboat, and brother, Francis Pollard, are also accomplished Haida artists.Show More
