Coast Salish Woven Wool Scarf
Handmade by Coast Salish artist, Jessica Silvey, this 100% Salish woven wool scarf is the perfect winter accessory for you to bundle up with. Choose your favourite between our grey and/or black options.
Jessica Silvey is a self-taught weaver of shíshálh and Portuguese descent and has conducted a variety of cedar and wool weaving workshops at the museum in the past. Combining traditional Coast Salish construction and design with her own artistic vision, Silvey creates beautiful baskets, hats, blankets, shawls and mats. Her creations can be found in numerous private collections worldwide and are now available in notable art galleries in the Lower Mainland.
Her love for weaving and fibre arts, coupled with a background in museum curating inspired her concept for a unique Weaving Studio. In 2016 she opened Red Cedar Woman Weaving Studio (an art, craft and lifestyle studio) where she facilitates immersive weaving workshops in Coast Salish basketry, Salish weaving on the floor loom and harvesting traditional use plants for dyes and medicines. Through Red Cedar Woman Weaving Studio, Jessica also offers workshops in macrame, tapestry weaving, natural dyes and medicines as well as hosts guest artists to facilitate their own unique craft workshops.
