Haida Bentwood Box Velura Blanket
Gwaai Edenshaw, Jaalen Edenshaw
This cozy blanket, made of soft Velura, is a thoughtful and practical gift. The Haida Bentwood Box design, also called “Great Box Considered,” is a contemporary recreation by Haida brothers Jaalen and Gwaai Edenshaw as an effort to understand the work of an unnamed 19th-century Haida Master artist. The rediscovery and exploration of this Box design have been a source of growth for the artists.
Jaalen and Gwaai, who are members of the Ts’aahl Eagle clan from Haida Gwaai, are recognized internationally for their art. Their common interest in Haida story, land, language and art has inspired them to work together on a number of projects.
