Written by Phyllis Webstad, founder of Orange Shirt Day, and illustrated by Karlene Harvey, Every Child Matters teaches children about the meaning of the 'Every Child Matters' movement. With this book, children can learn about Indigenous Peoples histories, the Residential School System, Indigenous resilience, and the role that they can play in Truth and Reconciliation by learning "Every Child Matters".
Phyllis Webstad is Northern Secwépemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation (formerly Canoe Creek Indian Band) and comes from mixed Secwépemc and Irish/French heritage. She is a Residential School Survivor, the founder of Orange Shirt Day, and an ambassador for the Orange Shirt Society. Phyllis’s mission is to create space for dialogue, healing, and a shared journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.
Karlene Harvey is Tŝilhqot’in and Syilx and grew up on territories of the Semiahmoo and Kwantlen Nations, they are an illustrator and writer.
