One of the most influential and well-known Haida artists of the twentieth century, the late Bill Reid was born in Victoria in 1920. Some of Reid’s best-known works include the yellow cedar sculpture, The Raven and the First Men at MOA (1980), and The Spirit of Haida Gwaii jade canoe at the YVR Airport (1994). Reid’s life and work helped to revitalize Haida art in the twentieth century, and continues to inspire countless First Nations artists.
