These contemporary style sterling silver earrings feature Tlingit artist Tenna'Tsa'Teh Mark Preston’s abstract Chilkat design.

Chilkat refers to a type of weaving from First Nations along the northern Northwest Coast and is most commonly used for the prestigious fringed regalia worn at special occasions and ceremonies. Inspired by the Chilkat, Preston’s minimalist-style earrings are complemented with laser engraving and the use of light and oxidized dark areas.

Tenna'Tsa'Teh Mark Preston was born in 1960 in Dawson City, Yukon, and grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon (d. 2022). He belonged to the Raven and Frog Clans of the Kwanlin Dun people of Whitehorse. Preston was inspired by artists like Bill Reid, Vernon Stephens, Robert Davidson and Roy Vickers and attended the famed ‘Ksan School, where he studied with Eugene Alfred and Phil Janze.

Preston was best known as an accomplished jeweler and printmaker, but he also worked with textiles, wood, stone and glass. His signature, Tenna'Tsa'Teh (Master of the Copper), incorporates the copper shield.
