Raised in the Kwakwaka’wakw community of Alert Bay, BC, she began an apprenticeship with her father, master carver Charles Harper, of the Carrier First Nation at just 19 years old. Matilpi’s work often incorporates both cross-hatching and stippling techniques to accentuate her fine detailing and stippling.
