Wolf Sterling Silver + Gold Ammolite Ring
Carrie Matilpi
This unique sterling silver ring includes two Wolf crests on a heavily stippled background, facing a featured ammolite gemstone set in 14k gold. Ammolite gemstones are a rare iridescent, organic gemstone found only in the Eastern Rocky Mountains of Canada.
The Wolf crest represents intelligence and leadership, a strong sense of family, ritual, spirit and guardianship.
Born in Vancouver in 1976, Carrie Matilpi is a Kwakwaka’wakw, Carrier and Cree artist who is well-known for her intricately carved gold and silver jewelry. Raised in the Kwakwaka’wakw community of Alert Bay, BC, she began an apprenticeship with her father, master carver Charles Harper, of the Carrier First Nation at just 19 years old. Matilpi’s work often incorporates both cross-hatching and stippling techniques to accentuate her fine detailing and stippling.
