This contemporary but traditionally inspired pewter ladle, by Coast Salish artist Francis Horne Sr., features the Heron elegantly dipping its head forward to create a handle. The Heron represents grace, purity, patience and is considered a good omen. It's known as an inquisitive and determined bird and an expert fisher. Presented in an attractive black gift box, this ladle makes a lovely gift or accent to any home or special event.

Francis Horne Sr. is a Coast Salish artist born in 1954, at Mount Vernon, Washington. He is a largely self-taught artist, but credits the late Chief Simon Charlie as his mentor. Francis comes from a well-known family of artists, with four talented brothers and five children who carry the artistic tradition forward. Horne Sr. works in many mediums, but is best known for monumental wood carvings, like the five totem poles he carved for the "City of Totems," Duncan, BC. His work is well-known, and collected around the world.
