Hummingbird Cedar Wall Plaque
Shain Jackson
This plaque depicts a Hummingbird crest by Coast Salish artist Shain Jackson. The Hummingbird is the nurturer and brings comfort. It symbolizes love, beauty, compassion, joy and healing. The Hummingbird can also be the bearer of good news. The design of this plaque is laser-cut on reclaimed western red cedar. Abalone is inlaid in the bird's wings and tail.
Jackson is from the First Nation community of Sechelt. In addition to being an artist and successful business owner, he is also a lawyer who has represented Indigenous communities throughout BC. His company, Spirit Works, produces each piece in Vancouver using salvaged woods from milling operations.
