This small Dogfish box is a reproduction of an argilite box by Denny Dixon (Haida) held at the Canadian Museum of History. The Dogfish is a crest that is often applied to utilitarian objects, and is often portrayed with a labret in her lip. In the oral tradition, a noble Haida woman was carried off by a Dogfish Man into his undersea village where she transformed into a supernatural Dogfish Woman.

The museum-quality reproduction is made from a crushed marble and resin composite with the same heft and finish as the originals. The composite material uses at least 90 percent crushed natural marble mixed with resin and colour pigment and moulded from casts of the original box. The marble is reclaimed black marble from Texada Island, BC.
