The sides of this handcrafted 14k yellow gold bent box are hand engraved with a traditional Haida shark design, with additional detailing on the lid. The box exemplifies fine Haida engraving, featuring intricate and precise cross-hatched detailing.

Tlajung nung kingaas,Carmen Goertzen was born in 1963. He was raised and educated in Masset, Haida Gwaii, and is the hereditary Chief of Yahgu 7laanas Dadens clan. Initially a self-taught artist, carving has been Goertzen’s main interest since the age of eleven. After being taught to make tools by his cousin, the renowned artist Robert Davidson, Goertzen began carving jewellery professionally in silver and gold in 1984. Goertzen has developed a distinct style in both his designs and carving techniques, featuring deep carvings and traditional Haida forms. Since 1987, he has expanded his work to include pieces in wood and argillite. He is also interested in the mediums of photography and silk-screening.
