The apple, pronounced "ping guo" in Chinese, is a symbol of luck and prosperity. It is Taikkun's hope that all who receive one of his porcelain apples will experience peace, balance, and positive energy in their home each day, whether they are admiring the apple on a shelf or holding it in their hands and enjoying the texture and shape.

Taikkun Li, whose work was recently selected to represent the contemporary evolution of Chinese ceramics at the University of New Mexico Museum, is a well-respected multimedia artist. Created by the artist for Pagoda Red, this series of hand-painted porcelain apples was fired at the traditional Chinese imperial kilns in Jingdezhen. In traditional Chinese culture, apples are symbols of peace, because the Mandarin words for both sounds similar. This apple is painted with a landscape scene, generally believed to communicate the natural balance and harmony of the universe.

Taikkun Li is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who works in industrial design, fine arts, ceramics, film, video and data visualization. He holds a BFA in Sculpture from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. Li creates pieces inspired by traditional Chinese blue and white porcelain ware, adding his own contemporary style through unexpected or satirical forms and iconography. Li’s work has been shown at Milan Design Week, the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology in Albuquerque and UNESCO Beijing.
