Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth artist Gerren Peters was inspired by his sister when creating these sweet sterling silver earrings:

"There is a picture I hold dear of my sister as a little girl with this puffy dress and cedar headband on. I’ve always been a fan of street art, and especially Banksy's balloon girl. His design reminded me of that photo of my sister so I altered it to make it my own, using a salmon head as the balloon. The print is named after my sister, Chantell (Telly)."

Gerren Patterson Peters was born in Maple Ridge, BC in 1983. His father, prominent artist Tom Patterson, mentored Gerren in both Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth art traditions. Peters grew up in a community rich with talented artists and frequented the woodshops of master carvers as a child. During these visits, he paid close attention to the individual styles and techniques used.

Passionate about his culture and Indigenous heritage, but also influced by pop art and modernism, Peters fuses contemporary colours and composition with traditional formline and symbols to create his own unique style. Both a visual and culinary artist, he works with wood, glass, graphics and jewellery design.
