Beyond the Orange Shirt Story is a unique collection of truths, as told by Phyllis Webstad's family and others, that will give readers an up-close look at what life was like before, during, and after their Residential School experiences. In this book, Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors share their stories authentically and in their own words. Webstad has carefully selected stories to help Canadians educate themselves and gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of the residential school system. Readers of this book will become more aware of a number of challenges faced by many Indigenous peoples in Canada. With this awareness comes learning and unlearning, understanding, acceptance, and change. Webstad's hope is that all Canadians honour the lives and experiences of Survivors and their families as we go Beyond the Orange Shirt Story.

Phyllis Webstad (nee Jack) is Northern Secwepemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band). She comes from mixed Secwepemc and Irish/French heritage. Webstad was born in Dog Creek and now lives in Williams Lake, BC. In 2018, Webstad launched her children’s book, The Orange Shirt Story to share her story in her own words. The Orange Shirt Story tells the story of young Phyllis having her orange shirt taken away on her first day of residential school and never to see it again. A simple orange shirt has become a conversation starter for all aspects of residential school across Canada and beyond. Webstad has inspired thousands and thousands of people to honour residential school survivors and their families and share the call on September 30 of each year that “Every Child Matters.” Webstad is well respected for her work, her courage and for striving to heal our communities and Nation through speaking her truth. In January 2022, Phyllis Webstad was awarded the Governor General's Meritorious Service Cross.
