Mother Nature's Wrath Painting

In the bottom right corner, the blue eagle represents an ocean flood. Powerful waves can “grab you and take you away as quick as an eagle takes its salmon from those waters,” says KC. At the bottom of the painting is a salmon trout which represents the earth, and a hand that symbolizes the grabbing and shifting of tectonic plates and earthquakes. In the centre-left is a face with a U-form emerging from its head, representing mountains and volcanoes; the blue and red splashes emerging are lava and water. The Chilkat-style face in the middle right surrounded by clouds represents rain, lightning and thunder.
As a nod to the countless tarps used as temporary shelters during natural disasters, KC opted for his canvas to be a canvas tarp. This further depicts the forces of extreme weather in his piece. Finally, at the top of the painting, the figure in profile depicts the power of the wind: a significant factor in many natural disasters, hurricanes and tornadoes in particular.
Born in 1986, Kelsey "KC" Hall grew up in East Vancouver. His work blends his personal style of graffiti art with traditional form line and Heiltsuk language, to create what he calls Neoformline. This unique style puts KC’s work in high demand from special collectors. In 2016, KC was commissioned to design and present a blanket to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to B.C., Canada. KC was also awarded the prestigious Crabtree MacLennan Emerging Artist Award by the BC Achievement Foundation in 2018.
