In Northwest Coast Indigenous cultures, the down of the eagle is used to cleanse the floor of the longhouse, bringing peace to the community. Eagles are symbols of strength, leadership and prestige. Renowned Kwakwaka’wakw and Tlingit artist Corrine Hunt designed this abstract cast necklace, which features an Eagle crest with cross-hatched etching.
The Eagle (Air) is a symbol of freedom and strength combined with grace. The down of the eagle cleanses the floor of the loghouse bringing peace to the community.
Hunt’s works include engraved jewelry, custom furnishings in stainless steel and reclaimed wood and sculptural installations. She co-designed the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Medals and was awarded the National Aboriginal Achievement Award in 2011.
