"Sioux Horse Effigy" is a bronze sculpture by David Sidley, a painter and sculptor living in Rossland, BC. Sidley's work is heavily inspired by the Indigenous rock art sites he visits in North America. Pictographs and petroglyphs are arguably the oldest and most widespread artistic tradition in Canada, with a history spanning thousands of years. The Sioux Horse sculpture rests atop a bronze post mounted on a granite base.

Sidley's evocative bronzes are cast in very limited editions, using the lost-wax process. His work allows him to express and recapture connections to wildlife and the environment. His immense public artworks are on display throughout BC, such as the life-size pair of bronze deer installed at UBC Okanagan Campus.

Born in 1958, David Sidley has always had a passion for the history of the land and the Earth's rock qualities in each area. He has studied at multiple post-secondary institutions including the Ontario College of Art and Design, Seneca College and the University of Oregon. Despite the relative scarcity of rock art sites, since 1984 Sidley has visited and researched more than 100 of them throughout North America studying pictographs and petroglyphs of the Native North American people.
