Bear Silver Bracelet
This bracelet, by Salteaux, Ojibway artist Allen Thompson, features a large Bear crest accentuated with cross-hatching. The cuff is a thick, shiny silver bracelet engraved with a front-facing bear design, that has the bear's side and legs extending on each side. Cross-hatching fills the space around the bear and forms a border around the edge of the bracelet.
Bears are highly respected for their intelligence and intuition. A symbol of protection, they can be identified in Northwest Coast artwork by clawed feet and a wide mouth with teeth.
Born in 1964 in Ebb and Flow, Manitoba, Allen has been practicing Northwest Coast art since moving to Vancouver at the age of twenty-three. He studied under renowned Haisla artists Derek Wilson and Henry Robertson, as well as alongside his own brother, Kelvin Thompson. An accomplished carver of silver and gold, as well as wood, Allen’s work, is well known in galleries throughout BC.Show More
